At Indigo River Academy, We have homeschool park days!
We love to take our school on the go and have homeschool park days! The park is actually one of our favorite outings. We have a favorite park too! It is a park that the children call the 'Rock Park' because it has all of these beautiful granite outcroppings with gravel paths and green grass in between them.

We always take the baby and sometimes I think she has the most fun out of all of us. Between the drooling and the baby food, Lexi certainly enjoys her homeschool park days (and her blanket in the sunshine too!). I'm sure the constant attention she gets from her brothers and sisters makes her quite happy also.
The park is great for 'recess' or 'P.E'. But it's actually good for any academic subject you can think of. It is especially nice for silent reading time. Everyone just lays around in the sun with a good book feeling the warm breeze in their hair...

Science in the park is another fun thing that we do. Sometimes we like to test to see how healthy the soil is. You can do this by mixing up a gallon of water with 2 tablespoons dish soap. Pour it all over the grass in a 3 x 3 foot section. Wait a few minutes and count the bugs and worms that come crawling out of the ground. The greater the quantity and diversity of the bugs = better soil!
For this homeschool park days, however, we focused on getting some wild and crazy exercise! We decided to have a contest to see who could jump off the swing and get the ABSOLUTE MOST AIR before hitting the sand. (Now, please keep in mind that we do have health insurance and the nearest E.R. was less than 15 min. away - haha!).
Everyone got several tries and many thanks to my husband for getting these 'mid-air' pics after a million "I swear I'm going to jump this time!" from the kids.
Each child had their go of it. First Merrin, then Raiyna, then Quintin and Finally Zennin. From the looks of these pictures, the ABSOLUTE MOST AIR would have to go to Zennin. Raiyna definitely gets the MOST CREATIVE award for her Michael Jordan interpretation and as you can see, Quintin has the largest fan club dancing below. Merrin wins the award for the MOST ATTEMPTS before she actually made a jump! Maybe she was afraid of the sand?

We hope our story gives you some ideas for your next homeschool park days! Or else you can check out our Homeschool Calendar page to see when and where we are headed on our next field trip.
You can also take a moment to subscribe to The Turtle Tales and we'll keep you informed of our latest outings and motivated with new, fresh, and yes, even sometimes slightly dangerous - ideas!
If anything we hope we've inspired you to get out of the house and do some learning and activities with your homeschoolers.
