Charter schools are either private or public schools that provide support, curriculum, activities and funds to homeschooling families.

Many charter schools provide support in the way of a certified teacher. A certified teacher is assigned to each homeschooling family, meets with them on a regular basis and guides the educational choices of the family. The regularity in which a homeschooling family meets with their certified teacher is determined by either the school, or the needs of the family. Some teachers do nothing but review paperwork (i.e. attendance sheets) and collect work samples, while other teachers are deeply involved in delivering lessons and grading work.

Some charter schools provide only one curriculum that they work in tandem with, while other charter schools give you a budget and a list of vendors through which each family chooses and orders their own curriculum.

Many charter schools coordinate field trips and outing for their homeschooling families. These can be a simple as a trip to the zoo or as in depth as a 3-day long camping trip. Some charter schools provide these in tandem with their curriculum while other charter schools require you to pay money for your field trips from the budget they have given you.

Charter schools are not for all homeschooling families. Some families desire the independance of not having their progress monitored by a teacher while other families use curriculum that is not supported by a charter school; such as Christian curriculum not being supported by public charter schools.
